Ashland Sketch

This is one of the first sketches I did when I started this sketchaploosa and haven't stopped! I posted it before, but it was too small to see. It is on sketch paper with a really light wash- since the paper wasn't made for water! Don't laugh, I was new and didn't know!

The sketch is my wonky intrepetation of a little restaurant in Main Street in Ashland where I went with my Berkeley Bad Girls Book Club in October. Martha sketched it, too. If you want to take another look at hers, it is here...

Fun to see how different the two sketches are! I love revisiting sketches even more than photos. What vivid memories they bring!

I love the colors, so I won't laugh:). I'd love to be able to sketch this well. Katie is also a fabulous artist. It's hard to believe she's 12.

The first thing I noticed was the yummy, sherbet colors!! The light wash/pigment is PERFECT for this!!

Nope, I'm not going to laugh, I like the light wash. I tend to have a hard time getting mine to look like that. I really like the composition of this.

I agree with you, I love to look back at old sketches. & Breaking the rules is fun the light was turned out to be really nice it gives it that laid back Ashland feel!

Thanks for your comments on my page, I haven't done anything custom yet, but I'm not opposed to it. I actually posted the books on craigslist, & I was kind of surprised to get a response!

This was your first sketch? Wow. I like your style - especially with buildings. Have you ever been to Williamsburg, VA? I think you'd enjoy painting the buildings there. For some reason the way you do buildings reminded me of Williamsburg. No idea why.

Keep up the great work!

I love the sketch but tell me, tell about the Berkley Bad Girls Book Club...I'm fascinated. What have you been reading? And are you really bad or bad girl wannabes? I fall into the latter category but love to read.
